People

In addition to dozens of student employees, the Center for Agroecology comprises staff and faculty affiliates who work in diverse roles and areas of research.

Facilities

The Center for Agroecology manages the certified-organic UCSC Farm and Alan Chadwick Garden, the historic Cowell Ranch Hay Barn, and the non-transactional Cowell Coffee Shop: For the Peoples.

History

The Center’s history dates back to 1967, when English gardening expert Alan Chadwick was hired to create a Student Garden Project (now the Alan Chadwick Garden) on the fledgling University of California, Santa Cruz campus. Building on the success of the garden, the campus farm was established in 1971.
